GLENN Pennyfather’s Chelmsford City squad will start the 2010/11 Blue Square Bet South season with a tricky away fixture at Basingstoke Town on Saturday, August 14, while Thurrock provide the double-header opposition for the Clarets on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
City will meet local rivals Braintree Town away in August and at home just after Christmas, while the season will climax on Saturday, April 30, at Hampton & Richmond Borough as the club look to make it third time lucky and progress to the Blue Square Bet Premier after two years of misfortune in the play-offs against Hampton and Bath City.
Chelmsford’s opener hands them the opportunity for revenge against a Basingstoke side that did the double over them last season, while two highly-charged encounters are also expected against historical rivals Dartford, at home in late August and away in the New Year.
The first two home games are likely to be difficult as play-off finalists Woking visit on the first Monday night, followed by challengers Eastleigh on the Saturday.
Pennyfather will additionally look to the latter stages of the campaign with some interest, the last four games generating meetings with Zamaretto Southern League champions Farnborough at Melbourne as well as a visit to former Premier side Ebbsfleet United from Kent.
