CHELMSFORD City Ladies were no match for Leigh Ramblers as they went down in the Essex County Women’s Football League.
The Clarets team lost 6-3 in the Premier Division clash at Salerno Way.
With just two points between the teams ahead of kick-off, Chelmsford knew victory would see them leapfrog Leigh into the top three.
But they never looked likely to match their opponents.
Down 2-0 at half-time, the Clarets second half goals came from substitutes George James (two) and Lisa Overall.
Chelmsford visit Belhus in the Essex County Cup next Sunday.
In Division One, Chelmsford City reserves lost 3-1 at home against Chigwell.
Substitute Tish Cleary got Chelmsford’s only goal of the day.
