CHELMSFORD ace Martin Compton landed his biggest darts pay day after finishing as runner-up at the Catalonia Open.
The 47-year-old construction worker lost 6-4 in the final at Calella, near Barcelona, to Niels Heinsoe of Denmark. Compton, who earned nearly £650, had more ton-plus scores, but the Dane’s dart average was the clincher.
Among other local players, Scott Bennett reached the last 64, while Peter Wiffen and Charlie Selby were second-round losers.
>CCFC’s two Ridley League sides will play at Chelmsford Black Bull this winter. With Red Beret unable to muster a darts team, the league will start with seven clubs on October 2.
