Chelmsford started their London & South East season with an emphatic victory over neighbours Maldon.
New head coach Kevin Blackmore guided his team to a 42-18 victory on the road - with six tries scored.
Chelmsford’s first two tries came from controlled forward plays, with driving mauls allowing Nicolas Crouch to score twice. Messy play resulted in Maldon scoring a runaway try and a penalty before Chelmsford fullback Ed Wild ran a brilliant line and scored a try under the posts just before half time.
Paul Redford scored and assisted scrum half Tom Day before the final try of the game was scored in the final five minutes by Jobi Fisher. A brilliant pass by Crouch allowed Fisher to score by the posts.
Jordan Ayling, in his first season of senior rugby for Chelmsford, converted all six tries.
Chelmsford’s veteran Undertakers beat Old Brentwoods 33-19, the 4s lost 30-10 at Maverick RFC.
Chelmsford Ladies handed debuts to Maddy Hughes, Bethan Morgan, Stefania Evans, and Rosie Carpenter against West Norfolk.
Karly Harrington scored the only try on an otherwise chastening day with the full-time score 54-7 at the close.
