CHELMSFORD Rugby Club begin their London & South East campaign against Maldon this weekend.
A win and a defeat in pre-season represents mixed preparations but Chelmsford will be determined to begin this season on form.
It comes after a 22-19 defeat to Hastings & Bexhill Rugby Club.
And Director of Rugby Kevin Blackmore said while the result was disappointing he believes the team is moving in the right direction.
“It was a disappointing result but a more connected performance in many ways than the game against Bromley,” he said. “I want to win every games but the main objectives for the game, were for us to see some progress with our defensive and attacking processes and, in that respect, I think we are moving in the right direction.”
Tom Day and Jordan Ayling each scored a try after intercepting the ball from Hastings and running the ball in from 60 and 40 metres respectively.
