ALI Carter was beaten in the second round of ranking competitions in Riga and China.
The professional snooker player from Chelmsford had qualified for both events with ease but was unable to advance into the latter rounds.
Carter defeated Ryan Day in the first round at the Riga Masters but that was as good as it got. Northern Irishman Mark Allen won 4-2 in the second round with the competition won by Australian Neil Robertson.
It was a similar story at the World Open. Carter walloped Rory McLeod 5-0 in the first round but was unable to maintain that momentum, beaten 5-3 by David Gilbert in round two.
Gilbert was beaten by Welshman Mark Williams in the final of the competition.
