THE Cramphorn Theatre in Chelmsford is hosting a range of diverse films this summer.

The highly acclaimed Precious is being shown today (Friday, July 2).

Pregnant for the second time by her own father and physically, mentally and sexually abused by her mother, Precious is offered the chance to transfer to an alternative school where she is finally able to learn to read and write by the patient yet firm Ms Rain.

This is a vibrant, honest and hopeful film about the human capacity to grow and overcome.

Mugabe and the White African, on July 13, is an unmissable portrait of courage.

Michael Campbell is one of the few hundred white farmers left in Zimbabwe since President Robert Mugabe began his violent Land Reform programme.

This documentary follows Mike and his son-in-law’s harrowing attempt to save their farm and with it their homes and livelihoods. From the Academy Award winning director and world-renowned Japanese animation legend Hayoa Miyazaki comes Ponyo on July 20.

This Anime and Manga-style film is inspired by the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale the Little Mermaid and features an outstanding selection of voice talent including Cate Blanchett, Liam Neeson and Matt Damon.

Drawing the summer season to a close is A Single Man on July 22.

It stars Colin Firth as a British professor, working in Los Angeles, who is grieving for his long term partner.

The story is a romantic tale of love interrupting the isolation that is an inherent part of the human condition and ultimately the importance of the seemingly smaller moments in life.

Tickets for all films are £5 with concessions £4.20.
