COMMUTERS faced delays on Monday after a man was found on the railway track.
Network Rail engineers had been working overnight just south of Chelmsford, when they found him shortly after 4.30am.
It is believed the 33-year-old, who suffered minor injuries, may have fallen from a railway bridge.
Ambulance spokesman Lorna Marsh said: “He was conscious and breathing.
“He was concerned he had been shocked by the track, but it had been turned off.”
The man was taken to Broomfield Hospital where he is being treated for minor injuries.
Russell Spink, Network Rail spokesman, said: “The emergency services and injured person were clear of the track at about 5.45am.
“The engineers’ work was disrupted, so we got our people and equipment clear of the track just after 6am.
“That did cause disruption throughout the morning rush hour because trains weren’t where they should have been.
“We worked with National Express East Anglia to minimise disruption.”
Trains on the main line were delayed by up to 25 minutes.
Emma Wiggins, British Transport Police spokesman, said: “We attended the line near Writtle Road after reports a 33-year-old man had fallen from a railway bridge.
“The incident was reported to police at 4.44am and is currently being treated as non-suspicious. British Transport Police and Essex Police officers attended, along with paramedics from Essex Ambulance Service.”
