THE women created by Jane Austen will be brought to life at Chelmsord’s Cramphorn Theatre.
The novelist defined her era, her sex and her class.
The show observes some of the most prominent of her characters and will be at the theatre on Wednesday, June 23.
Directed by Guy Masterson, famed for many popular performances at Chelmsford theatres, and acted by Rebecca Vaughan, this multiple character solo performance of 13 of Austen’s heroines comes highly recommended from 2009’s Edinburgh Festival.
The show features the characters of Emma Woodhouse, Lizzy Bennet, Mrs Norris and Miss Bates using only the words of Austen, creating scenes of high comedy and moments of pathos.
Out of context and in the absence of men, the characters speak volumes for their sex, social standing and the constraints of society.
If you are an Austen fan then this is a show not to be missed, but will resonate with a modern audience whether a fan or not.
Tickets are £13, concessions £11.
Book tickets by calling the box office on 01245 606505 or visiting www.chelmsford.gov.uk/theatres.
