POLICE are appealing for witnesses to an accident in which a teenager suffered a serious head injury.
The 14-year-old girl, from Chelmsford, was flown to Queens Hospital in Romford following the accident at New Bowers Way, in the town, on Monday.
She is now stable and recovering.
The ambulance service was called to New Bowers Way just before 3.40pm after the girl was in collision with a black Ford Fiesta, driven by a woman who was uninjured.
A rapid response vehicle was on the scene in about four minutes, backed up shortly afterwards by an ambulance.
The Essex Air Ambulance, with a critical care team of Dr Mark Shirran and paramedic Laurie Phillipson on board, was also dispatched.
Mr Phillipson said: “Pilot Al Scott landed the helicopter in a car park close to the scene.
“The collision had caused the teenager to go over the bonnet of the car.
“Treatment included sedation, full immobilisation, a pre-hospital anaesthetic so we could care for her more safely and a bubble wrap blanket to protect her from the elements.
“We then flew her to Queens Hospital, in Romford, where there is a specialist neuro facility.”
Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident, which happened near the junction with Lupin Way.
They particularly would like to hear from the driver of a blue car that was heading towards White Hart Lane at the time, as the driver is potentially a key witness.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Chelmsford Police on 0300 3334444.
