SIX Chelmsford bands will be performing a charity concert this weekend (June 12).
The mini rock festival takes place at Galleywood Memorial Hall and all funds raised will go to the Daylove school for street children in Nairobi.
The bands taking part in Rock for Nairobi are the Cast, Collision Theory, Katharsis, Six Degress, Naming Crisis and Forgetting the Fallen.
Tickets cost £4 online and £5 on the door with all proceeds going to the emergency appeal to save the Daylove project, which is threatened with closure.
Rock for Nairobi was the idea of Dana Nunn, a student at Moulsham High School.
She came up with the idea after her father David visited the project in January and heard of its funding crisis first hand. He said: “Daylove is an inspirational project with strong ties with Chelmsford.
“It was started by five people from the slum who gave up their own food one day a week so they could feed a handful of street kids.
“That gesture inspired an international charity to put up the resources to school 50 children and it’s now grown to 400 children a year.”
Writtle-based charity Hand in Hand was also motivated to become a long term supporter, and continues to assist with buildings and land.
It was inspired to begin a trading arm after running a student trip to Daylove, and is now building a 200-home development generating funds for charity projects and jobs for local people.
The concert will start at 6.45pm on Saturday, June 12, at the Galleywood Memorial Hall.
