A WOMAN was sexually assaulted in Chelmsford’s Central Park.

The attack took place between 10.30pm and midnight on Friday and police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

The woman aged in her 20s was walking along a footpath by a cycle track in the park when she was dragged into a small nature reserve and assaulted.

She has been left “traumatised” by the incident but remembers hearing a group of young women coming along the path from the town centre.

This group was making some noise and police say this seems to have disturbed her attackers and they ran off.

They are described as both being white men and in their mid to late 20s.

One was 5ft 7 inches tall, of medium build, with short dark hair and wearing jeans and a black T shirt, and the second was also of the same height with dark hair that was longer than the first, and was wearing jeans and a white, checked shirt.

The victim was not injured in the attack. She is being interviewed and supported by specially trained officers.

Anyone who was in Central Park late on Friday, and particularly the group of young women, and may have information that could assist the investigation is asked to call police at Chelmsford on 0300 333 4444 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
