PLANS for a huge Jehovah’s Witness HQ on the outskirts of Chelmsford will continue, despite a number of similar projects around the world being pulled.
The International Bible Students Association, the charity which manages Jehovah’s Witnesses’ printing and literature distribution, has begun building its new British headquarters on an 82-acre site (about the size o f 15 football pitches) at Temple Farm site, off Ship Road, West Hanningfield.
The plans include a printery - producing Bible-based literatur e-admin and language translation offices, video and sound production studios, an auditorium, training centre and work - shops all on site.
Hundreds of workers have helped to clean up the site , removing tonnes of debris, contaminated soil and discarded tyres.
Work began in July, starting with the demolition of some onsite derelict structures .
The group wouldn’t confirm what other projects will be affected, but were quick to reassure the Temple Farm development was on course.
Spokesman Stephen Morris said: “In order to make best use of contributed funds, some construction projects worldwide will be delayed or cancelled.
"However, we are pleased to confirm that the Temple Farm project will continue.
“We still have a very active work force on site, and we have no intention, or directive, to close down or sell the site at Temple Farm.”
The IBSA’s headquarters is currently located in Mill Hill, North London.
The charity said it had chosen Temple Farm for its new home because it has “excellent transport links and is set in a beautiful rural location.”
