HOSPICE staff and volunteers have received praise by their local MP during a parliamentary debate.

Chelmsford MP Simon Burns mentioned Great Baddow-based J’s Hospice during the discussion of hospice care for children and young adults held in Westminster Hall.

The Conservative politician praised the work done by the charity who provide palliative care for patients aged from 18 to 40-years-old.

He said during the debate the work done by the volunteers opened his eyes to the care needs of young adults.

Mr Burns said: “I am full of admiration for the dedication and hard work that is carried out by both staff and fundraisers on behalf of The J’s Hospice.

“The J’s Hospice has identified a gap in the provision of care for young people between the ages of 18 and 40.

“The hospice care and related services that they provide for this age group is fantastic and I am full of admiration for all those associated with The J’s Hospice and their dedication and commitment.”

Staff at the hospice said they were honoured to receive recognition through the debate by their MP.

Communications manager Nikki Perry said: “We are delighted that the difficult situation many young adults find themselves in upon leaving children's services has been recognised at a national level and we hope that this brings a new perspective to those unaware of the problem.”
