LING Derek John Formerly of Little Saling. Passed away peacefully in Norfolk August 2019 age 81. Husband to Barbara Father to Joanna and Step Father to Bonnie, Janette and Nicola. A beloved Grandfather. 'We plough the fields and scatter'

Grandad Derek
Oh what fun we used to have!! " let's go for an drive girl" you used to show me all the rabbits out and about in the fields. And was so proud of your " birds" remember that egg you gave me! I was do excited I ran all the way home and it cracked. You laughed your head off!!
Your a great great Grandad now you would of loved that. I will always have special memories of you. The giggles you made me have and remember you with such fondness. You have taught me life is too short. Over the fields you go Derek with your birds. Love you always. Ray, Andy, Emily, Ben and Toby. X

Grandad,
You will be sorely missed. I’m fairly confident in saying I will never know another man like you. A wind up merchant and a joker if you did nothing else you made us all laugh. I will never forget the times we spent exploring the woods and forests during what were some of the happiest and fondest memories I possess and treasure.

Goodnight and god bless! you walked into our lives in 1968 and turbulent years did follow. We have made some fantastic memories too, especially you telling us we couldn’t go to bed as the weather was far too nice and promptly took us across the fields looking for red squirrels, birds eggs and telling us what birds were singing!
I will miss our recent daily phone calls with you saying, what you want now Nic! But it was a privilege to have made the last 2:5 years good ones for you and mum and to hold your hand and stroke your hair whilst you met as you called him, your maker!

God bless, Derek. It was sad to say goodbye but I'm glad you are no longer suffering. I'm sorry I won't hear that.... Hello girl, well what do you want then? when you answered the phone. Or see that twinkle you got in you eyes as you were about to say something to try to wind me up!!
We did have our ups and downs over the last 50 years didn't we, but that's life isn't it and I'm glad we got the chance to say goodbye.
