Natalie Hensel is a reporter covering breaking and national topics with focus on Colchester and Tendring. Natalie works with the newsrooms of several newspapers in north-east Essex to report on the latest events and developments on a local level. She works closely with print and online publications such as The Daily Gazette, Clacton and Frinton Gazette, Essex County Standard and more. Natalie received her bachelor’s degree in Multimedia Journalism from the University of Essex in June 2023 and is NTCJ Gold Standard qualified.

Financial struggles force University of Essex to cut around 200 jobs

The University of Essex has announced to reduce its staff by a huge number of workers in a series of measures to ensure “medium-term financial sustainability”.  In a financial update, which was published on November 28, the university revealed that it is facing a shortfall in its budgeted income of approximately £29 million.  The university, which has campuses in Colchester, Southend and Loughton needs to take these drastic measures to generate a cash surplus of two per cent by July 2027.
